Deluxe Facial Aftercare for a Massage Facial Spa: First 48 Hours and What to Avoid
By Bella’s Dream Skin | June 29, 2026
Winter Haven, FL | Deluxe Facial: 60 minutes, $149

Our Deluxe facial is a 60-minute, results-focused treatment that includes two advanced modalities (like LED therapy, dermaplaning, hydro or microdermabrasion, or oxygen infusion) plus a custom jelly mask. The single most important aftercare rule in the first 48 hours is simple: keep your skin calm. That means no heavy makeup, no sweating it out, no hot showers, and no “active” products while your skin is settling. In Winter Haven, our heat and UV make this even more important, because sweat and sun can turn a fresh glow into irritation fast.
Your first 0–24 hours after Deluxe: protect the work we just did
Right after your Deluxe, your skin tends to be more receptive and a little more reactive. That’s normal, especially if we did modalities that focus on texture and congestion. Here’s what we generally recommend for the first day.
For the next 24 hours, keep it boring: gentle cleanse, light moisturizer, and SPF 30+ in the morning. Skip makeup, sweat, heat, and active ingredients.
Do this (it’s what helps the glow last)
- Cleanse gently with lukewarm water. If your face feels “tight, ” don’t scrub. Just cleanse and pat dry.
- Moisturize with a simple, non-comedogenic moisturizer. Hydration is what keeps the surface looking smooth.
- Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ the next morning, even if it’s cloudy. Winter Haven UV still shows up.
- If you have redness, use cool compresses for short periods. Keep it comfortable, not icy.
Avoid this (these are the usual “why am I irritated?” triggers)
- Heavy makeup for at least 24 hours, longer if you’re feeling sensitive.
- Intense exercise, saunas, or anything that makes you sweat heavily. Heat and sweat can sting and clog freshly treated skin.
- Hot showers and steaming your face. Warm is fine. Hot is where people get into trouble.
- Picking at extractions or any flaking. If something is ready to come off, it will. Picking is how marks happen.
24–48 hours in Winter Haven: sweat, sun, lake days, and the small choices that matter
Day two is where people feel “back to normal” and accidentally overdo it. In our Winter Haven summer humidity, sweating is the big one. If you’re heading outside, running errands, or planning a lake day, try to keep sun and sweat minimal for the full 48 hours. You’ll protect your glow and lower the chance of bumps or irritation.
Makeup, workouts, and heat
If you need makeup after 24 hours, go light and keep removal gentle. For exercise, we usually say wait at least 24 hours, and aim for 48 hours if you’re prone to redness or breakouts. A slow walk is fine. A hot yoga class is not your friend right now.
Pools, ocean, and anything chlorinated
Hold off on pools, hot tubs, and ocean water for at least 48 hours. Chlorine and salt can dry you out and irritate freshly treated skin. If you can’t avoid being outside, SPF, a hat, and shade do a lot of heavy lifting.
Days 3–7: when to restart retinol, acids, and exfoliation after Deluxe
Your skin often looks bright and refined in the first couple of days. Then you might notice a little dryness or light flaking, depending on what we did in your Deluxe. Don’t panic. This is where gentle habits keep your results looking even.
Rule of thumb: if your skin still feels sensitive, keep waiting. We’d rather you restart actives a couple days late than inflame your barrier and lose the glow.
When it’s usually safe to restart actives
- Retinol: often 3–7 days after, depending on sensitivity and which modalities we used. Start slow.
- Chemical exfoliants (AHA/BHA): often 5–7 days after. If you tend to sting easily, wait the full week.
- Physical scrubs and brushes: skip for at least a week. These are the fastest way to trigger redness.
And if you had dermaplaning during your Deluxe, be extra careful with sun and exfoliation for that first week. Smooth skin shows everything, including irritation.
The simple product lineup we like after a facial spa visit
You don’t need a 10-step routine after Deluxe. You need the right basics, used consistently.
Stick to these categories for 48 hours
- A gentle, pH-balanced cleanser (no strong fragrance, no exfoliating beads).
- A light moisturizer that won’t clog you up (look for “non-comedogenic” if you’re acne-prone).
- A broad-spectrum SPF 30+ you’ll actually wear daily. Mineral or chemical is fine. Consistency matters more than the label.
If you’re not sure what’s “too active” in your current products, take photos of the ingredient lists and send them over. Our team will tell you what to pause and what’s safe to keep.
When to reach out to our Winter Haven team (and when it’s totally normal)
A little pinkness right after a facial, mild tightness, or a small “purge” can happen. What we don’t want is anything that looks like it’s getting worse day after day.
Reach out if: redness lasts longer than 72 hours, you have increasing pain, swelling, warmth, or any signs of infection. We’d rather talk early and keep your skin on track.
We’re a local massage and facial spa serving Winter Haven and the surrounding Polk County area, so if something feels off, let us know. We can walk through what you’re seeing and decide if you just need a few calm days or if we should get you in for a quick check.

Quick FAQ: Deluxe facial aftercare
How long should I wait to wear makeup after a Deluxe facial?
We generally recommend waiting at least 24 hours. If your skin is still pink, warm, or feeling sensitive, give it closer to 48 hours and keep makeup light when you return.
Can I exercise after my Deluxe facial?
Light movement is fine, but skip heavy sweating for 24 to 48 hours. In Winter Haven heat, sweat can sting and irritate freshly treated skin, so the longer window tends to protect your results.
When can I go in the pool or ocean after a facial?
Wait at least 48 hours. Chlorine and saltwater can dry and irritate your skin right after advanced modalities and a detox-focused facial.
When is it safe to restart retinol or chemical exfoliants after a Deluxe facial?
If your skin feels calm, retinol often comes back in around days 3 to 7. Chemical exfoliants are usually best after about 5 to 7 days. If you still feel sensitive, wait longer and restart slowly.
How long will the results of a Deluxe facial typically last?
It varies based on your skin and home routine, but many people see their best glow in the first several days. Consistent gentle care, daily SPF, and avoiding over-exfoliating help the results last longer between visits.
